Another Nice Weekend At Carrie's Lakehouse

So Ruth and Carrie spent Saturday working in the garden.
I thought this would be a good photo op.

Carrie wanted the picture with them not smiling.
Ruth had problems doing this.

Finally she said OK. Now.
It's not the best frown but it will do.

Ellie found a prize worm in the raised bed.
She thought this was great fun.

Saturday night we watched Marry Poppins.
Ellie settled the softest chair in the room.
Or was that the fattest chair in the room.

She's such a sweetie.

Meanwhile ,On the Island my oldest daughter ran a 10 k. race and aced it.
Not a bad time.

We Had A Good Thursday

Nothing is better than starting the day off with a laugh.
Every morning these women do an exercise program in the park led by a personal trainer.

They utilize all parts of the park for their exercises.

After a few minutes we looked out to see that Ellie had joined them.
They were being very kind.
They let her join in but after a few minutes Carrie called her back to the house.
She wanted to go back out and exercise some more but Carrie side tracked her.
We could hear Ellie talking to them saying "This sure is fun". Hahaha.

We've been talking about getting ourselves a couple of decent bikes for the last couple of years.
Me especially. Ruth is happy with almost any bike she rides but I am more of a problem.
If it isn't perfect I won't ride it.
So we spent half the day checking out bikes that Ruth did the preliminary check on yesterday.
We settled on a couple of bikes from a little shop down town.
I think we will ride a lot with these bikes. Ruth's is on order and will be here next week.

Michael and Ronnie invited us over for a terrific dinner Thursday night.
Lots of laughs. It was a good time.

I need to buy me a selfie stick.

I Thought I Was Going To Get Photo Of The Year

But it turned out that I wasn't that lucky.
Carrie told me that she had accidentally dropped her keys into the BFI.
I walked out to the bin with her carrying my phone/camera behind my back.
I watched her unlock and open the bin.
I was sure she was going to climb in and grab them.

Brad drove past us just then on his way to work and yelled out to Carrie that I had my camera .
I yelled out to him that he was a spoiler.
Carrie promptly left of a minute and returned with a rake.
RATS.

She seemed quite proud of the fact that I didn't get my winning shot.
She picked her keys with the rake within 20 seconds.

Saturday night and Sunday with Shelly and Rob

We had a really nice weekend.
We started out the day by taking Ellie and Jack to the market.
Ellie was in a hurry to get there . She knows that she'll be getting a treat .
She was tired of standing so found this chair somewhere and got Daisy for company.
Funny kid.

Once we arrived they got 10 minutes in the bouncy castle and then a cinnamon bun. Score.
Last week it was puffed wheat cake and then the bouncy castle.
Wrong order. Jack was sick. We're learning.

Great concentration here.

Later in the afternoon we jumped into the coach and headed out for an overnight at our friends place.
It was like staying in a beautiful park. They won an award from the city a few years back for their yard.

This is the family homestead.
Rob's parents started the orchard and Rob took it over when he was a young man.
They sold the farm and kept a couple of acres for themselves.
What they have developed is absolutely stunning.

We have a spot with electricity out near the old orchard.
It's perfect.

Shelly gave Ruth a tour of the gardens.
I got tired looking at what they have already done this year.

Sunday morning we hooked up with Gord and Maureen when we arrived at Scenic Canyon.
This was our first walk of the year to Tracy's Bench.
We all took turns having our pictures taken on it.

Three Monkeys.

Tracy was part of our group who unfortunately passed four years ago.
We all chipped in and bought this park bench which the regional district placed
in Scenic Canyon with a view of Layer Cake Mountain.

Last year we all brought clusters of Irises and planted them around her bench.
They were Tracy's favourite flower.
Looks like they are all doing well.

So we all headed down the canyon to the creek.
This is such a beautiful walk.

This canyon is famous for their Chinese ovens.

When the railway was being built across Canada in the early 1900's the Chinese were the main labour force.
They use to come into this canyon with their families to enjoy their time together.
There are scorch marks on the rocks from their bonfires.

It's a beautiful park.

Flood waters from the creek must have eaten away at these rocks centuries ago.

Daisy and Charlie are buddies.
She's like a mini me.

Spring flood waters.
Daisy wouldn't last very long if she fell in.

Something interesting on the other side.

Now that they have made more room they both wanted a coffee.

So we headed off to the Harvest for breakfast.

This is a beautiful golf coarse.
I found out today that it is owned by a wealthy Japanese Business man.
That is why and how there are no homes on the property.
He finances it thru his business in Japan.

Such a nice group.
We enjoy our sunday morning walks and breakfast.
We have been doing this for about 6 years.

The walk around the lake back to the cars is very picturesque.

After breakfast we headed out to a town house we own .
We need to do some yard work and also take applications for a new renter today.
We are almost done here. Looks like the place may be sold.

Ruth raked up this mess of leaves while I picked a bucket of dandelions.

Still could use a little more work but looks much better.

It was so nice to get back to Carries lake house Sunday evening and take a stroll along the lake.

This Week In A Nutshell

We can hardly get Jack off the piano these days.
He's learning Space oddity by David Bowie.

When he's not playing it , He's singing it with the music background on their iPad.
So cute. He's getting pretty good.

Ruth made crepes' for breakfast one morning.
Jack impressed us all with how he could jam a whole Crepe' in his mouth.
Definitely doesn't take after me in this category.

Ellie loves dancing for us at breakfast time.

She has started dressing herself in the mornings and is doing a pretty good job of it.

She has also taken on the job of feeding Daisy with a fork at breakfast.
this keeps them both busy in the mornings.

Our daily evening walks .
Ellie is forever getting too tired and doesn't want to sit in the stroller.
Ruth has way more patience then me.

Ruth catching a few rays of sun.
Summer looks like it is finally here.

We had the grand kids most of the week while Brad and Carrie were working.
When Carrie isn't on the ships for the coast guard she takes the odd shift at the lake country arena.
Here she does everything from an engineering job to driving the Zambonie.

She let me do a lap on it last year but I dumped so much water she hd to go over the rink with the blade
and shave off my mess. She hasn't offered me a chance to drive it again since.

Ruth in her happy place .
She has rented a plot in the community garden and is thrilled about it.
Everything is coming up beautifully already with her green thumb.

Here is Ruth in her other happy place.
3:00 A. M. in the morning watching a movie under her sheets.
The light keeps me awake so she kindly covers up her computer screen with the blankets
when she can't sleep and finds a good show.

It's hard to beat getting up and having your first coffee of the day while enjoying this view.
