Las Gatas

Another hot and beautiful beach day coming up.

We walked along the rocks to Las Gatas instead of taking the water taxi.

I prefer the walk. It only took about 20 minutes.

We took the Combi to the end of La Ropa and then struck out across the rocks

This is Jose'. Here he is telling us that his daughter had a baby

 just 5 minutes ago and he is so excited.

It's his second grandchild.

I ordered the best fish tacos yet .

Their place is rated as a five star restaurant.

Ruth ordered the sesame and cocoanut shrimp.

They were to die for.

Very good but pricy. $280 to be exact.

That's what we usually pay for a dinner.

Ruth thought it would be funny to have this fellow get in my face and serenade me.

She told him that I was a king and deserved his favourite song.

It seemed to go on and on and on.

He was a nice man. I told him that he had a beautiful voice and thanked him.

At 4:00 the beach emptied.

All the Mexicans have tickets for the water taxi's and they have to be gone by 5:00.

We walked out at 5:00 and wandered down to Paddy's to watch the sunset.

We stayed under the roof until about 5:45 and then moved onto the beach.

I'm trying to watch how much sun I take in every day.

Last year I got so burnt here my eyes got swollen shut.

You can't beat the sunsets here.

Just what Google weather said.

Friday morning we went to the dentista for 10:30.

I had two crowns finished . 

It took about one hour and cost about $6000.pesos.

Because there wasn't any freezing involved we headed over to Tonio's for a coffee .

He's such a nice guy. I hang out there quite a bit.

Next we wandered over to Cafe Marina for lunch.

I'm liking Fish Tacos more and more.

While we're eating an old pan handler on crutches came up and asked for money.

We had no change so we said no. 

He just stood there staring at us and not leaving.

Finally Ruth asked him if he was hungry and asked if he would like half my taco.

He indicated that he would so Ruth took the knife and cut my last taco in half .

He seemed happy to eat it and left.

She watched him stop about 30 feet away with some other guys 

and they all had a good laugh.

We need to start carrying 1 & 2 cent pesos.

Saturday morning er headed out to La Ropa beach.

Ruth read on Facebook that this beach club was opening today with a soft opening.
 Free loungers and towels.

 It was great.
Best shrimp tacos yet.

I can't believe how hot it got today.

It's tough having to just lay around.

 Tonight we went to a fashion show down on the beach.

Our dentist told us about it .
Ruth got there about an hour before me.

She had a table with our dentist and her friends.

She's the one in the white.Best dentist I've ever known.

Likely the best looking as well.
She's very sweet.
All the Mexican people we've met so far are so nice.
One of the gals at our table complimented another woman on her necklace
and the woman took it off and gave it to her.
They are all so giving.

She is picking us up in the morning and we are going to the beach together.

We have become friends with Douglas and his sister this evening.
He loves fishing so I said I'll go with him anytime.
He suggested we go for swordfish.
We'll see. I hope so.

We have a new favourite Italian restaurant.
It was great.

After the fashion show we came to El Mediterranean for the first time.

On the way home there was a lot of activity on the waterfront.

This gal was great with the firesticks.

The drummer kept us all cheering.

OUR THIRD WEEK IN ZIHUA

My shoes are done.

I bought them last year before coming from wall mart.

There was a pair of sandals from a shoe store in Kelowna that Ruth's friend recommended.

They were over $200. and I'm too much of a scotsman to spend that. These were under $30. including tax.They have lasted quite a while considering and were very comfortable. 

Sharon is bringing me a new pair when she comes next week and I have a lambskin pair being custom made here in Zihua that will be ready in another 10 days. I hope.

We were walking to the Bodega store for groceries when we saw a police station.

We were told the prisoners make hammocks and then they have them sold outside the police station.

We went over to this display and looked at their selection. Very beautiful and well made.

This one is a triple and sells for 900 pesos. Great deal.

We almost bought it but decided we really don't need a hammock.

This was a bottle of Vodka that had me stumped. 

I have never seen a cap like this and tried everything to get it off.

I finally resorted to cutting it off.

It didn't really matter that I got it open.

It fell out of the freezer and broke on the tile floor.

Damn.

I had to go out and buy another bottle. 

Liquor is so cheap here. This bottle cost me $92.61 Pesos.

That works out to be $6.31 Canadian.

This is the Dr's logo. He's across the street from our apartment.

Likely a good thing to know.

One day we headed out to Playa Blanca

We heard about this place from Nikki.

They have a pool and if you buy lunch there you can hang out in their pool all day.

It's a beautiful resort.

I loved the architecture.

It was pretty easy to hang out here for the better part of the day.

Beautiful breezes coming in from the ocean.

The water is too rough to of into here along this stretch of beach.

Rip tides are a concern.

Ruth didn't want to leave.

Can't blame her. Neither did I.

We were with Mike and Cheryl for the day.

When we left we walked down the beach for a mile or so before cutting thru 

another resort back to the highway.

The scenery here is gorgeous.

 This is the view I usually see of Ruth.

I don't know why but she seems to always be in a hurry.

On Monday evening we met Mike and Cheryl , Nikki and Dave

 at Rossy's on La Ropa beach for a drink and to watch the sun set.

Such a lovely evening.

By the time we left the combo's had stopped running 

so we grabbed two cabs for the ride downtown.

Boy's in one and girls in the other.

When we got downtown the boy's cab stopped behind the girl's and we got out.

Cheryl was behind the driver and against the curb. She got out.

The streets are packed and very tight with cars.

Ruth opened her door to get out and Mike yells at her "Shut your door".

She pulled her leg back in really fast 

But Nikki in the front seat had her door open about 6 inches.

A can tears past and smashed her door. It didn't come off but it won't close again.

That was such a close call. Someone could have lost an arm or a leg quite easily.

Dave called for Nikki and Ruth to get out of there and leave.

That eventually happened . The cab drivers were in the middle of a discussion.

You can't be too careful in Mexico. That's for sure.

We were on our way to Don Memo's Italian restaurant.

One of the best meals so far.

Ruth and I walked home along the canal around 10:00 after dinner.

We had a couple of dogs come along as bodyguards.

Wednesday night we have made a habit of coming here to watch Miguel

and his trip perform.

On the beach. Sun is setting. Beautiful music.

Hard to beat.

This young lady joined them for one set.

She has a beautiful voice.

Our noisy table. It was fun.

It was a nice evening.

When we left we walked about one or so miles down the beach to this path 

which is uphill to the road into town.

It doesn't look it but it is quite steep.

We walked into town and went for dinner again at Don Memo's.

 We were looking for a different restaurant but couldn't find it.

They have a tower that we asked if we could sit at.

A great view of the street below and a wonderful breeze.

It's pretty easy to smile when you're having a good time.

 I had the best view.

his was a great pasta dinner.

We'll be back. It's our favourite restaurant so far.
