I'M TRYING TO KEEP BUSY

Here's the reason I haven't blogged for three weeks. Haha.
Just joking.

Looking for things to do while stuck inside.
My first attempt ever at making cookies.
They were gone within one day.
I'm gaining weight.

Mark and Carol keep bees at the end of our property.
Bees are getting active.

I wanted to have my own bees until I saw how much work they are.

This is better.
They keep me supplied in fresh honey year round.

And it is beautiful honey.

This bird is driving me crazy.

Every couple of minutes he fly's into the window.
This goes on for most of the day.

By evening he just sits and recharges.
Getting ready for tomorrow.
This went on for about 5 days.
It's over now.That was annoying.

I've been so bored I tuned Carrie's piano one morning.

Next project was to irrigate Ruth's food forest.
This took a couple of days.

It's a large space and is on a slope which makes it terrible to work on.

We put in two raspberry patches at the top and they are fully irrigated.

We also need a new outfit on the scarecrow.

All the gates on the property have warped a little and none of them closed properly.
I finally redid them all today and this one was the last of the day.

It took a little longer than the others.
After I attached the screen onto the new wooden rails I had to rehang the hinges.
This gate had to be taken apart and redone.
Notice the hinges.
I was tired.

Here is the makings of a chicken pot pie.
It was delicious.

With the leftover pastry I made raspberry turnovers for dessert. Yumm.

The kids did a puzzle while waiting for dinner.

Ruth and Ellie chowing down on my famous pancakes the next morning.

I've been in a pie mood lately so I did a couple of lemon pies.
We were out of pie pans so I baked my pie crusts in a couple of
Chinese food containers I found in the pantry.
Not pretty but it worked.

No one seemed to complain about hoe they looked at dinner.

John and I started the log spec house on Thursday.
We've been trying to start this house for almost a year now.
I was thrilled to get finally going on it.

Friday morning I showed up for work and his bobcat (which we use to lift the logs) was broken.
His spare bobcat was buried behind all this wood and we couldn't get it started so
we're back to not doing anything for a while. At least until he can get one of them going.

Ruth found a young lad to work around the property so
I have him helping me lower the earth behind the garage.
I could only get the tractor in for the first 10 feet so
he is shovelling the dirt to where I can reach it.

I'm trying to level out a spot in the back 40.

I love this tractor.
It sure makes our life easy.

Ruth and I are starting to go for walks down the rail trail every day.
This is good because after my stint recovering on the couch from my Mexico
adventure I am so stiff I have a little trouble moving.
This daily walk seems to be helping.

Ruth's food forest from the rail trail.

I always worry that people can see us in the hot tub from the trail
but the bushes hide it. In fact , I could hardly see our house from the trail.

We get a good view of the tree house Ruth and I put up for Ellie.
She used it for two days until she saw some ants in it.

Carries place looks great from the trail.
I use to have people stop on the trail and ask questions about it as it was going up.
That was fun.

I GOT SOME YARD WORK DONE

First thing on the list was to drop buckets of bark mulch over the fence
for Ruth to move into one of the gardens.
Glad I have a tractor.

Next job was to make a dirt pile for Carrie to move into one of the gardens.
Still happy that I have a tractor.

I finally had to park the tractor and move int a chair to supervise Carrie
as she dug a trench for some new irrigation.

Everyone is doing what they all like to do while I'm still working.
Jack and Ruth are trying to identify a bug they found.
Ellie is eating the snacks.
Carrie is busy eating her first hot dog of the day.
I'm cooking her next one over the fire.

Finally , another snow is happening so I get to come inside and stop working.
Since when do we get snow in the Okanagan in April.
Such a strange time we're having.

At last , I finally get to make myself something to eat.
I'm glad I took that tenderloin out of the freezer this morning.
