Friends and family time

Last Sunday we had a get together at Jeff and Sues place. Cousin time. Jeff  grew up in Vancouver area but moved to the states with the love of his life a few decades ago. They moved back to Canada one year ago and happily they live 10 minutes away. They hosted a afternoon get together last weekend. It was nice to have all the cousins together. We’re all related.it’s nice to have such a large family close by. 

 A bit of a blast. 

Grandma Anita  was loading her granddaughter up on sugar with the help of my grand baby Ellie. 

Ellie made these cupcakes and icing sugar. It was fun seeing their sugar buzz. 

On Monday we went for a 20 kilometres ride around the lake with our grand kids and youngest daughter. 

It was fun but a little long for Ellie. 

The waterfall always make a nice picture. . 

Our friends Randy and carol spent a few days here with us on their way their to their cottage on Denman Islam and then on their way back to Yellowknife this weekend. They are the sweetest couple we know. It was nice to see them and spend time with them. Except when they bear is at cribbage. 


I think Randy’s most favorite thing in life is to laugh. 

So Carrie has gone to the island for about 10 days and we are taking care of GG. She a great little bird. Her cage is left open but all she ever does is fly to your shoulder. 

It’s cute when she comes in for a pat. 

She’s a pain in the ass when all she wants to do is poke your ear and squawk. 

And this is the worst. She tucks under your neck and makes a fuss when you try to rake a sip out of your wine glass. 

She’s a beautiful little bird. 

First two weeks in May we’re busy

   

 We went to the island for about two weeks and helped Sharon and Carrie fix up a little house they bought as an investment property  The old concrete stairs and sidewalk were in ruins So Carrie and I replaced them with a lovely boardwalk  

It rained for all 4 days that we worked outside. 

Carrie didn’t have a rain coat so she rigged up a garbage bag. 

The house was terribly overgrown. 

Very unsightly. 

The finished product ended up being quite lovely. 

Ruth spent 4 days cutting and hauling out all the excess growth. More than 5 heaping pickups went to the burn pile back at camp. 

We managed to stop for a quick visit with Ruth’s nephew. I haven’t seen him since you got married 20 years ago. It was nice to see that he’s doing OK.

We also made a quick trip down to Portland to visit Dave Rooksby and his wife Megan. 

Thanks to Covid we hadn’t seen him for over three years. It was a great two day visit. 

Dave took us to see the second highest waterfalls in North America. It was hard to visualize from this angle but there was a display talking about its history. 

I wish I had dressed better for this outing. 

Their yard is magical. Dave’s hobby is gardening and with covid restrictions and working at home he has kept busy making every beautiful. 

That metal firepit in the middle of his yard is from us. When we sold our lakeshore home we thought they would like it and they drove up from portland to get it. 

They also got this Arbour with a bench from our Lake shore home. I’m so happy that they came and picked it up as well. It looks great in the yard.

Before we left I gave Dave a crib board and I had made for him. Because he’s in the music business I thought he would like the fact that I made this one out of the piano I had salvaged. The piano was made in 1850 so the word on this board is 172 year old quarter sawn oak with a Rosewood trim down the middle. 

Back at Camp Imadene I got to celebrate my birthday and my 47th anniversary. It was a really nice day.

70 candles throw off a lot of heat. 

Sue and Mike were there as well. 

I don’t get to see my American cousins very often so this was a treat.
