Life Is Really Busy These Days

It seems like we are overloaded trying to get this log home / farm set up.

We did have a few laughs the other day when Ruth asked me for a ride in from the back 40.

Everything was fine until Carrie yelled out to dump the bucket.

Here Ruth is saying "Let Me Down….Let Me Down"….Haha

Meanwhile back at the ranch Carrie is framing in a new pantry.

The Hammer. It's a wonderful thing.

Jack the plumber showed up with his helper to put in new pipes for our new bathroom/Laundry .

It's always easy to tell who the boss is.

He sets up the helper and then goes and sits in his truck.

Chester is our resident cat. 

He came with the farm but I think he will be leaving when the renter moves off the property.

This was funny. 

Dana came past for a visit. 

He had something bothering his teeth so picked up a scrap of wood from the floor.

About ten minutes later he pulled a packet of toothpicks from his pocket. Funny.

So this is how I look.

Someone should warn my granddaughter what's in store for her.

Ruth's sister Martha came for a visit.

Carie and the grand kids gave Ruth a break for a day and entertained her.

I took Daisy out for a walk and she started to sing. Strange.

About two minutes later this ambulance sped past us with sirens blaring.

For a little mutt she sure can make a lot of noise.

Ruth and I have signed up to be ambassadors for the new hiking trail from Kelowna to Vernon.The farm has about 1000 feet of frontage along this trail and we think it's going to be great when finished.

This was our third fundraiser in one week.

We won't be keeping up this pace. 

We have lots of other projects that need our attention as well.

The guy we bought the farm from was a hoarder and we found this piece of railway track
 in a shed that is stamped / dated 1898.

I contacter the railway museum and they will be picking it up for their collection.

The only other dated railway piece they have is from 1909 so they were quite happy to hear from me.

We're having a rock wall built in front of the house to hold up the driveway.

Today's excitement was getting the first load of rock.

These guys are big.

The earth shook as the rocks tumbled out of the truck.

It will be interesting to see how they can move these boulders.

The other bit of excitement was seeing our renters snake.

He is moving out of the mobile that came with the farm this weekend.

Then we are destroying the mobile as it's not in very good shape.

So I've never been in the mobile before and was a little shocked to see this snake.

He couldn't wait to pull it out of the cage to show me.

I was a little freaked out but managed to stay pretty calm and cool until…….

This snake seemed to make a lunge in my direction.

YIKES.

I can now say that I know that snakes scare me.

I asked him to put it away which he did and then I asked if it has ever gotten out of its cage.

He said no but he did loose a python snake in the mobile last year. 

Then he said he thinks it got electrocuted in the ceiling from some bare wires.

The kitchen lights haven't worked for over a year.

We're definitely destroying this mobile.

September 16 / 2016. Another Busy Day

Jack was bored and so he got all dressed up as a Pac Man Space Man in his NASA suit. 

Funny.

This damn dog is the biggest time suck some days.

I'm taking her with me for the day and she won't have any food to eat until supper.

I want her to eat her breakfast so she won't be hungry this afternoon but she's not interested.

The only way to get her to eat is if I feed her the breakfast by hand.

What a princess.

So on her normal walk we discovered a new sign.

I knew this was coming.

We have a bear season here in lake country and it just started.

A friend told me that there was a mother bear and her 2 cubs hanging around our walking trail.

I don't need this problem so we've changed where we do our morning and evening walks.

Once they hibernate I'll come back to this trail. It's a nice walk.

So Nash has the new driveway finished and he started knocking down the old sheds yesterday.

There were four sheds that needed to go and he had them gone this afternoon by quitting time.

It's looking good. It cost us a bit less than we expected.

He's a fast worker.

What I didn't expect was a flat on the John Deer.

I was going to try and fix it myself but had a change of heart.

Thank goodness for road side assistance.

Fountain Tire had all the right equipment.

The Farm Is Looking Good

So I'm walking thru the back 40 and saw this post sticking up in the field.

 It's my grandson Isaac's viking cap.

I guess he left it on this post. Nice.

Ruth and I helped Rotary at the Art Walk this last weekend.

It was a lot of fun.

Carrie showed up Sunday afternoon after her shift at the community centre .

I liked walking thru the show with her.

These girls were like mannequins.

They would hold their positions for hours.

They were great.

Back on the farm Ruth and I had the excivator start working the land. 

Today's project was to do the driveway with crushed asphalt.

It's come a long way.

Ruth rented a road roller fot the day to work the driveway .

The driveway was nice and smooth by the end of the day.

It was also decided that Nash would be better behind the wheel instead of me.

I can visualise the new yard.

It's going to be great.

All this happened while Ellie chowed down a box of cookies in the log home.

Back To Work On The Farm

So I built a crib over our septic tank and started to fill it in with dirt.

When I go to dig it up in a few years I don't want to have to dig 3-4 feet of dirt out.

This way it will only be about 1 foot below the surface. Eze-pezy.

I started to cover the box with a goon spoon but finally gave up

Nash filled it in with his excavator.

I think he was feeling sorry for me.

I'm getting ready to demolish the sheds on the property but before doing that I wanted my buddy Gus to come over and see if there was anything he wanted to save.

There were a few treasures worth saving. 

So I started the interior demos today.

The master bath was on the list.

Does anyone want a shower enclosure?

Maybe not. I got a little too rambunctious.

So Ruth bought this little step stool which also doubled as a chair.

Functional and safe.  NOT.

I was on the phone talking to a friend while sitting on the chair.

I leaned back and went ass over tea kettle.

Ouch.

I hate that chair. It broke right in half.

Nash Collee came over this morning and started to excavate the yard.

He wouldn't gave us any plans for what he thought it should look like .

He just said that as he starts digging the earth will show him what it should be.

We were both a little sceptical but we've used him a lot in the past and his work always turns out amazing.

He isn't shy about reshaping the earth.

He's given us a large open entrance area.

Trashed lots of bush.

Not much vegetation left at the end of the day

The entrance to the log home is going to look remarkable once he puts in the rock wall.

I love how this is going.

Now all we  need to do is get rid of the renter.

That will open the property up nicely when we demolish the mobile home.

Around 2:45 I looked into the back 40 and saw Jack hiking down the trail from his school.

I love the fact he can take a short cut thru the woods and get to Grandma's house.

Chester the cat met him about one kilometre back and walked with him almost all the way home.
