FRIDAY WAS A GOOD DAY WITH THE BUILD

We passed the Lake Country Final inspection.
I think its a beautiful building.

The build took about 14 months but worth it.
I've talked to a few contractors who say that the problems we had were very doable.

We actually failed our inspection on Tuesday because
when I plumbed the kitchen drain I forgot to install the breather
 after the trap.

Its fixed now and the inspector was glad to see it.
Just a stupid oversight. I'm embarrassed.

Carrie made me my first coffee in her new house today.
Another milestone.

The appliances all came on Saturday. So nice to get them all hooked up.
So now the kitchen is done.
Everything is hooked up and we're slowly going thru the man floor finishing everything.
Baseboards , Etc.

Carrie finished the bathroom yesterday.
It looks really nice.
Very log cabin like.

Next is the garage that the house is built on.
It's almost done. This will be my workshop.

Everyone thinks it is funny that I don't like heights. Except me.
I'll go up if I have to.

I'd do anything in my youth but now I don't feel like I have to.
Thats why I had kids.
But they weren't around today.
John and I rebolted the outside post that supports the ridge beam today.
This didn't bother me at all.
I'm more lazy than afraid of the heights.

Last night we had the worst snow dump of the year.
It was nothing compared to the rest of Canada.
It's not cold here. Niagara falls froze yesterday.
This is our little homestead.

The fresh snow does make everything beautiful.

My honey got me up early to jump on the tractor to clear the driveway before anyone drove on it.
It is above freezing these days so I don't think this snow is going to last.

We saw the Wolf Blood Moon last night.
Amazing.

ALMOST THERE

Tomorrow we will be asking the city for our occupancy permit.
There isn't a good reason we shouldn't get it.
I THINK.

This carriage house has turned out beautifully.
I'm really quite proud of it.
We did a few small changes that weren't on the plans but hopefully that won't cause a problem.

Yesterday I cut a hole in the logs above where the stove is going for the hood fan.
It was a real chore. A Sawsall is a great tool.

The hole turned out fine but not quite what I needed.

I have a chainsaw BUT because I don't use it all the time so I phoned John the log home builder
and asked him to come over to do some precision work for me.
He's great. The exhaust for our new hood fan fit like a glove.

On a different note.
Ruth and Carrie have been taking bread baking courses over the last few weeks.
We have all stopped eating dinner and have been filling up on breads.
This was yesterdays meal.
So good.
 This has to stop.

We've Been Busy Over Christmas. I Miss Blogging.

My New Years Resolution is to Blog more.

Christmas this year was a little strange.
The kids weren't here with us until Christmas day afternoon
but once they got back home it was back to normal.
The house suddenly came back to life and we all had a lot of laughs.
I can't believe I missed them as much as I did.

Carrie and I started to finish the attic Christmas morning.
It was good to keep busy.
This area is going to be the kids bedrooms once they are moved in.

We have a good system.
She yells out the measurements, I cut and bring the boards up to her and she installs them.
We've gotten quite fast at whatever we do together in this build.
I like working with her.

MOST OF THE TIME. Haha

Ruth found a guy here in Lake Country who builds countertops.
She dropped in to meet him last week and secured a good deal for us.
I really like what she chose.

Carrie and I are going to pull the counter out this weekend to do a small adjustment
to the cabinets  before we install the sink.
We're at the stage of the build that is becoming a little tedious.
We all want to be finished.

Our friends Bill and Sandy live in Stuart , Florida mostly on their boat.
They were hanging out on one of the waterways that lead to the Atlantic
when they came across this beautiful old antique boat.
They thought I might want a fixer upper.

They said it was a result of the last hurricane.
What a shame.
